Sia is an award-winning Australian singer-songwriter, record producer, and music video director best known for starting her career as a musician in the acid jazz band Crisp in Adelaide in the mid-1990s. As of 2024, she has released nine studio albums, 67 singles (including 22 as a featured artist), six live albums, and 42 music videos.

Sia is an Australian singer and songwriter who was born in Adelaide and started her career as a singer in the acid jazz band Crisp in the mid-1990s. When Crisp disbanded in 1997, she released her debut studio album, OnlySee, in Australia and later moved to London and provided vocals for the British duo Zero 7. In 2001, Sia released her second studio album, Healing Is Difficult, and her 3rd, Colour the Small One, in 2004.

Sia relocated to New York City in 2005 and toured the United States. Her fourth and fifth studio albums were released in 2008 and 2010 respectively, and both were certified gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association and drew wider notice than her earlier albums. Uncomfortable with her growing fame, Sia took a hiatus from performing and concentrated on songwriting for other artists, like David Guetta, Rihanna, and Flo Rida producing successful collaborations.

Sia broke through as a solo recording artist in 2014 when her sixth studio album, 1000 Forms of Fear, debuted at No. 1 in the United States. The top-ten single “Chandelier” and a trilogy of music videos co-directed by Sia and starring child dancer Maddie Ziegler. Since then, Sia’s 7th studio album, This Is Acting (2016), generated her first Billboard Hot 100 number-one single, “Cheap Thrills”.

The same year she also started her Nostalgic for the Present Tour, which incorporated dancing by Maddie Ziegler and other performance art elements. Her eighth studio album was released in 2017 and reissued in 2018 with three bonus tracks. In 2018, she started a supergroup with Diplo acronymized and Labrinth as LSD, and they released their self-titled debut album in April 2019.

Sia has composed many songs for films, and she directed a feature film, titled Music, which was released in early 2021 along with an album, Music – Songs from and Inspired by the Motion Picture.

Besides being a musician, she is an advocate for animal rights. Among the awards received by Sia are an MTV Video Music Award, a dozen ARIA Awards, and nine Grammy Award nominations. Regarding her education, the Australian singer-songwriter enrolled in Adelaide High School.
