Upon graduating from law school, he commenced his legal profession as an assistant United States attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney. During his time there, he worked as a Special Counsel to the United States Attorney as well as Deputy Chief of the Major Crimes Division.
In 1999, he joined in private practice, joining Clarke Silverglate as an attorney. His time there was brief and the following year, he returned to the Office of the United States Attorney, where he performed in the National Security Section Until Joining the Bench. Schlesinger was a Judge for the 11th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Miami-Dade County. He joined the bench in 2005 and resigned in 2020.
Besides, John’s memberships have included Big Brother Big Sister of Greater Miami, and the Board of Directors of Camp Fiesta Children’s Cancer Caring Center. He has also acted as a mentor at St. Thomas University’s Law School. He is part of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church.
