Cole Brauer Biography
Cole Brauer is an American Ocean Racer widely known as the First US woman to race solo around the world within 130 days. Moreover, she has appeared in some of the eminent news outlets such as CNN with Michael Holmes, BBC News, and CBS News.
Cole Brauer Sailing
Brauer set off on her solo global journey from A Coruna, Spain, on October 29, 2023. Cole was the youngest among around nineteen sailors in the event, but only seven returned. It took her 130 days to finish the route.
Various individuals set off. Brauer departed on October 29, 2023. By Thursday, some racers had pulled out. Her route led her from the Cape of Good Hope, down Africa’s western coast, and then eastward to Australia.
From there, Brauer continued east, navigating the treacherous, unexpected, and dangerous Cape Horn at the southernmost tip of South America, then heading northeast across the Atlantic Ocean towards Spain.

How long did it take Cole Brauer to sail around the world?
Her solo journey ended on February 5, 2024, after departing from the Atlantic on December 29, 2023, and reaching the Pacific again on January 27, 2024.
Thanks to satellite technology, Brauer was able to communicate with her sailing team and engage with her followers on social media. She posted videos from the race and her boat, “First Light.”
During the journey, waves as high as 30 feet (9.1 meters) tossed her around the boat.
Cole said the following when discussing her voyage alone:
As a solo sailor, you must be able to handle everything. Even when exhausted, you must be able to rise and repair everything on the boat. The first woman to complete this nonstop challenge was an Australian named Kay Cottee, who set sail from Sydney Harbor in November 1987 and returned 189 days later.
Brauer is not the first woman to sail around the world solo. On April 21, 1978, Polish sailor Krystina Chojnowska-Liskiewicz set the world record with a 401-day journey.

First Light, a Class 40 sailing yacht previously owned by Michael Hennessy and named Dragon on her Global Sail Challenge profile, is her preferred vessel. When talking about her boat, she expressed:
Among all the boats I’ve sailed, this one is the most familiar to me. We have a deep understanding of each other.
