Carter anchors CBS 17’s (Raleigh, NC) evening newscasts at 4, 5, 6, and 11 P.M. He came to CBS 17 News after spending over 11 years at WFLA in Tampa, Florida from Mar 2010 to Mar 2021.
Besides his role as an anchor, Rod coaches and guides upcoming journalists as a mentor. For years he has been the lead coach for the NABJ-FAMU Journalism Short Course, instructing learners in broadcast during an intensive weekend course. He also served as a Fall 2021 adjunct professor of communications at St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh.
Before WFLA, Rod served as a Morning and Midday Anchor for 2 yrs 9 months at WVTM-TV, Birmingham, Alabama Area from Jul 2007 – Mar 2010. Outside journalism, Rod is currently the International Director of Publicity for the fraternity and is a proud Life Member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He is also the previous 2nd Vice President and a charter member of the Sigma Xi Sigma chapter in Tampa. Since moving to Raleigh, he has joined the Eta Sigma Chapter of the fraternity and is also a member of the NAACP.
In addition, he is the immediate previous Region III Director for the National Association of Black Journalists, as well as a previous president of the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists. Rod is now part of the Raleigh-Durham Chapter of the NABJ.
