Nezhoda was born on 5 April 1977 in Austria and was raised in Frankfurt, Germany alongside his brother Ricky Nezhoda. In 1990, his family relocated to the USA and settled in San Diego. His passion for buying and selling antiques and collectibles began at the age of 11, developing what he later described as an “encyclopedia of secondhand prices.” His business, therefore, thrived well even before he starred in the show. Notably, Rene completed his high school education at Las Vegas High School, graduating in 1992. His father, Guter Nezhoda, however, died at the age of 67, due to lung cancer. Rene confirmed the death of his father in a video on Instagram.

Rene rose to fame when he joined A&E’s Storage Wars in 2013. When Storage Wars was produced, A&E Network approached Rene together with his wife, trying to convince them to be part of the show. However, they had to turn down the offer since Casey was baby-sitting while Rene had to concentrate on their business. Later on, Rene and his wife got another chance to be on the show. They featured as recurring cast members during the fourth season of the show where they performed as buyers for the first six episodes.

By season 5, Rene and his wife bacame part of the main cast in the show with them forming a team known as Team Bargain Hunters. His German accent and confident buying style set him apart, often making him a standout presence on the show. Nezhodas’ mostly appears during the last half of each episode when the cast members are attempting to establish the value of items they have found.

They were in the show from 2013 till 2016, and after the fifth season, they left the show. Rene and his wife later made a comeback to the show, when they were featured in season 14 and season 16 (aired on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 9 PM ET/PT on A&E). Off the screens, Rene co-owned Bargain Hunters Thrift Store in San Diego, a shop he co-founded together with his wife in 2002. The store specialized in collectibles, antiques, and resale items sourced from storage units. Additionally, burglars targeted their thrift store twice, in May 2019 and again in 2021, stealing valuable collectible cards, baseball cards, and rare coins. Lease issues later forced them to close the store making them to start promoting their business online through eBay, Whatnott and their YouTube channel, Bargain Hunters thrift, where they have hundreds of thousands of followers. Their channel also features behind-the-scenes looks at the auction world, Q&A sessions, and live unboxings. He, however, reopend their 7,000 sq. foot store in June 19, 2020. The store boasts a large stock of collectibles and antiques, which were even found on their television show, Storage Wars.

Rene and his wife also made headlines when they found several items in a storage unit which formerly belonged to stylist Derek Roche. The unit held dozens of shoes, t-shirts, and accessories—some brand new, others likely worn by Bryant himself. Other valuable things in their collection, include shoes worn by Flo-Jo when she broke her athletic record in the 1988 Olympics and Flo-Jo’s Barbie doll edition signed by her.
