Calvin was born on 10th September 1971, in Ridgecrest, California, and it is here that he developed a passion for sports. He began playing football when he was six and later joined Sherman E. Burroughs High School, where he performed well in football as well as wrestling. Following his High School, Calvin would attend Bakersfield College between 1990 and 1991 as a football player. He then shifted to California State University, Northridge, where he played as a linebacker of the university team, Cal State-Northridge Matadors, between 1992 to 1993.

After going undrafted in 1994, Calvin was signed by the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League on April 14, 1995. He appeared in seven games for the SaberCats, gaining 75 rushing yards and scoring one touchdown. He also added 33 receiving yards and made four tackles. After the SaberCats released him on July 5, 1995, Calvin ventured into mixed martial arts, securing a submission victory against Samu on July 30, 2002.
In 2008, Calvin turned his focus to the resale industry and started buying storage lockers. Later in 2009, Calvin opened his thrift store, Grandma’s Attic, in Palmdale. His keen sense to value good material and aggressive style as an auctioneer attracted producers in the A&E channel, which brought him on board in 2012 as a prevalent periodic storage enclosure buyer in Storage Wars. Calvin made regular appearances in seasons 3 and 4 and became a fully-fledged series regular in season 5, currently being an actor in main focus of the show. He was known as the King of Palmdale by his fans because of his bold fashion style and his imposing personality.
