This meant that she had to undergo surgery to remove the cancerous tumor from her left breast and lower her body’s estrogen production since the cancer cells used estrogen to grow. After the surgery, Abraira began her 12-week regimen of chemotherapy, undergoing four sessions of chemotherapy followed by 20 rounds of radiation, which went for five months. The surgery, however, placed her into medical menopause much earlier than she would have entered it naturally. In November 2023, Abraira was declared cancer-free.
After her cancer experience, Abraira started advocating for women’s wellness and promoting Addyi, an FDA-approved pill that helps boost women’s sexual desire. Her campaign is mainly meant to help women with firsthand menopause, break the stigma, and reclaim their confidence and intimacy.
